Taisei Matsumoto is a photographer born in Kagoshima, Japan, in 1992. He spent his early childhood in Taiwan and Singapore and began photographing in 2015.

Based in Fukuoka and Tokyo, he works primarily throughout northern Kyushu. Since 2022, he has continued to develop and exhibit personal work alongside commissioned photography.

What is visible never tells the whole story. He is drawn to the traces left behind as light comes undone, and to things that have not yet found words. Staying close to people and landscapes, he waits for something to quietly emerge.

For Matsumoto, photography is a way of touching the space between time and memory—of staying close to the interval between what appears before him and what lives in someone’s memory. Around what is disappearing, he draws a small circle. Calling fading light by its name, he continues to look closely, quietly, wherever he may be.
